  • My software does not recognize my USB Handle. I get the error: No Handles Found

Issue: My software does not recognize my USB Handle. I get the error: No Handles Found

Solution: First, check the indicator light at the end of the handle near the cord. If this is not lit, then the handle is not getting power.

If the indicator light is amber in color, rather than green, you will want to uninstall the device driver for the USB handle and then, reboot the computer. You should confirm that USB is listed as one of the available handle types in the No Handles Found error message.

    Right-click on My Computer.

Select: Properties. On the Hardware tab, click the button: Device Manager.

    Find Tekscan in the list.

Right-click on the driver for the USB Handle. Select Uninstall.

Then, unplug the USB cable and reboot your computer. When it comes back up, plug in the USB cable. Windows should now be able to find and install the driver for the Handle automatically.

If Windows cannot find the driver automatically, insert your Tekscan CD, exit from the CD's installation program, and then have Windows find the driver on the CD.

Always plug the handle into the same USB port on your computer. Otherwise, Windows will force you to reload the device driver.

  • No Handles Found... with Parallel electronics

Issue: We are not able to get our Parallel system working. We always get: "no handles found..."

Solution: If any printer is installed on the parallel port, this will prevent the computer from recognizing our parallel electronics. This happens regardless of whether the printer is connected at the time. Try deleting the printers from the Printers dialog in the Windows Control Panel. Any printers connected simultaneously should always be connected to the USB port.

This problem will always occur when printers are installed on the LPT1 port in Windows 2000 or XP.

    Parallel Troubleshooting

Disconnect all parallel electronics and reconnect that the electronics in the following order: AC adapter first, then parallel cable to the receiver and to the parallel port on the computer. Finally connect the handle. Then restart the Tekscan software.

Reboot after installation –- this starts the driver.

Once the computer starts, wait five minutes and reboot a second time -– this allows the driver to make some registry changes.

Whenever the computer starts, wait a few minutes before starting Tekscan software to be sure drivers load.

Delete any printers installed for parallel port.

Make sure software is enabled for parallel electronics.

Confirm that the correct AC adapter is connected to the equipment. This adapter should have an output voltage of DC 5V and an output current from 600mA to 2.5A.

Install the software on a second computer and then try using the electronics with this second computer. If the electronics is still not recognized by the software, then the electronics may require repair. Please contact Tekscan customer support to obtain an RMA number for repair.

  • Error: Operation must use an updateable query

Issue: I get the error message: "Operation must use an updateable query" when I try to create a new patient or save a movie in my Tekscan database.

Solution: This error message: "Operation must use an updateable query" will be displayed whenever the Tekscan software does not have change permission for the Tekscan database file. This database file is an *.mdb file stored in the "Database" folder beneath the "Product Installation" folder. Whenever you create a new patient, or save a new movie to the database, the Tekscan software must make changes to the database file. There are several possible problems that would produce this error message:

    1) The database file *.mdb is a read-only file, which is not allowing the Tekscan software to change it. Look for the "Database" folder, which is probably in a subfolder of the program installation folder C:Tekscan...Database. Make sure this entire folder is not checked for read-only in the Windows properties. Sometimes if the "Database" folder is copied to CD and then to another computer, it will retain the Read-Only status that it had on the CD.

    2) The database is not marked as Read-Only, but the Windows account used to log onto the Windows XP computer does not have permission to make changes to the database. If you are logged onto the computer with a user account that is in the "Users" group, this would restrict changes on any files that are not in the "My Documents" folder. You must use an account that is part of the "Power Users" group and you must make sure that this user group allows full rights to the C:Tekscan folder and to all of its subfolders. This may also occur if the database resides in a network location that the current Windows user does not have permission to change. You may need to have a network administrator make these changes to the user account.

  • Video is out of synch with the Tekscan recording

Issue: I have a digital video camera (25Hz) connected via firewire port to my PC. When I record data, the video starts and stops at same time as Tekscan, however when I go to analysis, the video image is out of synch with the Tekscan recording. If I let the recording play from the beginning, both Tekscan (zero frame) and video (94th frame) start together and finish together.

Solution: The synchronization problem you are having here may be because the Start Frame of the video is somehow set to frame 94. See the image below for how to change this. See this setting on the lower-left part of the video status bar (1). The software will remember the last start frame that was set and use this for every new recording. To reset this to frame 1, you should drag the video cursor back to the beginning of the movie (2). Then click the Mark Start Point button (3). This will reset the start point for the video so that frame 1 of the video corresponds to frame 1 of the F-Scan recording.

Because of the nature of the Firewire system (including both the hardware and software), the captured video frames often lag behind the recorded sensor movie even though the two started at the same time. However, on the same computer, it can be said that the latency of the video is fixed. That is, once the user determines how many frames of the video behind the sensor movie, the same latency can be applied to the movie/video pairs acquired thereafter on this computer. The steps in which the user determines the exact lagging video frame number can be called Synchronization Calibration. Tekscan recommends, prior to capturing data on patients/subjects, you perform a "finger" test yourself -- tapping on the sensor and then synchronizing with the video. After the initial synchronization is complete, the subsequent data will always have the same amount of latent frames.

To perform Synchronization Calibration, do the following:

    1. Record a movie-video pair as described in the Help file, "Recording a Tekscan (*.fsx) Movie and a Video".

    2. Click the Separate Movie/Video button on the main toolbar.

    3. Click the Next Frame button on the main toolbar to advance the pressure movie until first contact is made to the sensor. This process must be repeated with the video file as well, until you can actually see when first contact is made.

    4. Once you have determined latency on both pressure and video files, click Synchronize.

Synchronizing Externally Captured Video Files While it is easier to capture video files in Tekscan software as described in the Help file, "Recording a Tekscan (*.fsx) Movie and a Video", the software also has the capability to open video files using external software. This may be necessary for video cameras without a Firewire link or any other situations where it is necessary to capture video to videotape first which then gets transferred to Tekscan software.

When recording the video, the trig synch box should be used. This connects to a LED light that will turn on when the Tekscan software begins recording. The video should already be recording prior to starting the Tekscan recording.

    Follow these steps below:

    1. Convert video files to *.avi format. (See also: How to convert .fsx movie files recorded in the Tekscan software into a standard movie format)

    2. Open Tekscan software and open the Tekscan movie you wish to link to.

    3. Click Open Linked Video button and select the avi file you wish to link.

    4. Click the Separate Movie/Video button on the toolbar. The button will appear as depressed.

    5. Use the scroll bar in the video window to scroll the movie until to find the first video frame where the LED is lit.

        * Note: The LED light signifies the beginning of the Tekscan recording.

    6. Click the Start Point button on the video VCR button bar.

    7. Click the Separate Movie/Video button to re-link the video. The button should appear to pop out.

    8. Click the Play button on the video toolbar to play the movie and video simultaneously.

    9. If the movie and video are not precisely synchronized, repeat steps 4-7 until you are satisfied.

    10. Scroll the movie until you have reached the start point.

    11. Re-save the Tekscan movie. This will permanently link the movie and video together.

  • Too few parameters. Expected 2

Issue: My software will not allow me to take data or even to enter a new patient. No matter what I try to do in T-Scan it just keeps coming up with the warning message "Too few parameters. Expected 2".

Solution: This error occurs when the user who is logged into Windows does not have Permission to write to the Patient Database.

In Windows Explorer or in My Computer, navigate to the Database folder in the folder where your Tekscan software is installed, for example: c:TekscanTScanDatabase. Select the Database folder, right-click and choose Properties. On the Security tab you need to give Full Control to the user(s) who will use your Tekscan software.

Your attempts to use the Patient Database without the needed permission may have created some files that you will now need to delete. Here are the steps to take:

    1. Make a backup copy of the database folder somewhere else on the computer before you begin to change things.

    2. Open the Database folder. Delete all files that have the extension *.tst. (The only items remaining in this folder should be the tscandb.mdb file, the MOVIES folder and the EXPORT folder.) Then, try starting the T-Scan software again to see if it works.

    3. Restart the software. If you still get the Too Few Parameters error you will need to reboot the computer.

    4. If it doesn't work, then we may need you to send a copy of the database file to Tekscan to see if it can be fixed.

  • Where are the A & B lines in T-Scan 5.0 (T-Scan III)?

Question: I do not see the A & B line anymore, has it been taken out or am I just missing it?

Answer: They are still there. If you do not see them, go to: Options | Set User Preferences... | Graph. Check the check-box for: "Show A-B Increment/Differential".

The following text is from the Read Me file, c:TekscanTScan2readme.txt:

    A-B INCREMENTS FOR CR RECORDINGS

CR recordings will display only the A & B lines in the graph. The doctor can manually override to auto-placed markers at any time, for a more precise placement. Position of adjusted line markers is saved when the movie is saved. When saving a completed CR recording, the default procedure associated with the movie is "centric relation". The user can associate the movie with a different procedure. An internal movie flag however will maintain the CR nature of the recording, and as a result the graph will display just the A-B lines upon movie opening. On old (prior to TScan III) movies, if one associates the movie with the "centric relation" procedure, the movie will open on CR mode, (graph will display just A-B INCREMENT lines) even if the recording was not an actual CR-mode recording.

    A-B-C-D DIFFERENTIAL FOR NON-CR RECORDINGS

For non-CR recordings: The previous A & B line markers have been renamed to OT-A and OT-B. The OT-A and OT-B lines indicate IP range (see separate readme item "NEW ALGORITHM FOR LOCATING THE IP RANGE"). Two additional graph line markers are introduced: DT-C and DT-D. DT-C indicates the Beginning of Excursion, when green and red lines start to diverge and/or the COF starts to move from static position. DT-D indicates the End of Excursion In case of inconclusive calculations, OT-A, OT-B, DT-C, DT-D lines are placed at 25, 50, 75 and 100% of the movie, respectively.

  • How to Export a patient's movies from one Tekscan application for viewing in another Tekscan application

Question/Problem: How can I Export a patient's movies from my Tekscan application for viewing in another Tekscan application?

Answer/Solution: This can be done only in Tekscan applications which include a Patient Database. When a movie has been recorded on another computer, you may wish to import it into the Patient File Management system.

Please note that the patient's movies will all be exported to a single file which will be named with the extension: .tpm

You will need to Import the .tpm file in another Tekscan application which includes a Patient Database in order to see the individual movies.

    Exporting and Importing a Movie

    1. Record a movie, then select Save Movie from the File pull-down menu. The movie will be saved in the Patient File Management system.

    2

Open the Patient Record dialog box for the patient via the Patients Toolbar button or by going to File -> Patients. Click the Export Patient & Movies button. A dialog box will appear, prompting you to select Yes to export all movies for the patient, or No to export only the selected movie(s) for the patient. The movie will be placed in the export folder.

    3. When you are ready to import the client, select Import patient from the File drop-down menu, or open the patients dialog box and click the Import patient and Movies button. A dialog box will open in which will be displayed the contents of the Export folder. Select the patient files you wish to import to the system
